Bradley Grobler is now just four goals away from becoming the Premier Soccer League's all-time top scorer. The veteran striker's 130th career goal moved him past Siyabonga Nomvethe into sole possession of second place, with only Peter Shalulile's mark of 134 ahead of him.
Grobler, who began his PSL career with a goal for Platinum Stars in a 3-1 loss to Free State Stars in November 2007, has also found the net for Ajax Cape Town, SuperSport United, Sekhukhune United, and his current club Stellenbosch. He joined Stellenbosch at the start of this season. His historic first goal for the club was the one that took him to 130, overtaking Nomvethe's total of 129 scored for five different clubs between 1997 and 2019.
The record holder, Shalulile, last scored in the Nedbank Cup against Gomora United in February before his move to Tanzanian side Young Africans. Grobler's chase continues with Stellenbosch's upcoming fixtures, which include games against Kruger United, Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United, Richards Bay, TS Galaxy, and Orlando Pirates. He has a strong scoring history against Kaizer Chiefs.
SuperSport United, the club where Grobler spent a significant portion of his career, are currently in a patchy run of form. Their most recent result was a 1-1 draw with Golden Arrows on 29 May, part of a sequence of one win, one draw, and three defeats in their last five outings. Manager Gavin Hunt reflected on the team's recent performance. "Disappointed that we drew," he said after the Golden Arrows match.
